Mr Robin started the online portal www.JobSG.com with his friends with the main aim of providing an online Singapore portal that will result in a
closely knitted relationship among users. As a result of his venture in JobSG web portal, he was interviewed when nominated for the Spirit of Entreprise award. Here is a selection from the interview:
Please describe your business.
The nature of my business is quite broad as it reaches out to almost every Singaporeans. The website is a good marketing tool for business owners. Also it is a convenient tool for consumers and business owners alike to engage in job-seeking/employment or look at wares they want to purchase/sell or even use it as a point of reference.
What made you embark on this venture choice?
The idea then was not so much on starting a business, but to create an online presence and to provide a free-web portal for Singaporeans to use. People hear of American websites like Monsters and E-Bay but these are of American-related content and are not catered to the local Singaporean preferences.
The entire community evolves around Singapore and comprises of 3 distinct areas, namely the
● Employment
● Tuition
● Classified Ads
These areas are made up of individual job seekers and employers, Tuition-seeking parents and Tutors, Individual buyers and sellers respectively. Aside from acquainting oneself with others within the respective Areas, users can easily move around to the other Areas as the entire webpage is well integrated to facilitate network communications.
This online community gets together and exchanges information through the posting of Advertisements and Offers. Beyond the normal course of web interaction, JobSG also guides you to writing a better Resume and organises your career profile, keeps you updated on the latest news in the job market and promotes a Company with an entire page dedicated solely to each individual business
